Furniture retailer SCS is understood to have appointed Martin Tait Redheads to handle its advertising following a pitch involving incumbent agency McCann Erickson Manchester.

The incumbent on the account, McCann Erickson Communications House Manchester, is also believed to have been involved in the multi-stage pitch process for both its creative and media accounts.

As yet there has been no confirmation of the appointment by SCS or Martin Tait, although McCann's Jim Rothnie confirmed to The Drum that the account had gone.

The 96-store chain was recently saved from closure by private equity group Sun European Partners, which has confirmed plans to expand the brand before the end of the year despite a continued fall in sales.

McCann won the business in 2002 from Newcastle-based Robson Brown and has developed a number of TV-led campaigns for the Sunderland-based sofa specialists, including many featuring former Spandau Ballet and Eastenders star Martin Kemp.

More details are expected shortly.
