Paul Newman, Liverpool Culture Company's head of PR and public affairs and the former director of communications at The FA, has been appointed to lead the marcomms team at Media City UK.

Liverpool Culture Company's head of PR and public affairs Paul Newman has been appointed as the new head of communications for Media City UK.

The former director of communications at the Football Association will arrive at Peel Media in October, along with two communications executives to create a ready-made marcomms team as the development moves closer to its 2011 completion.

At the FA, Newman managed high profile projects including the re-development of Wembley Stadium and the England team press office for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea. He also spent 20 years as a broadcaster working for BBC News, ITV and Sky News as well as covering the first Gulf War for TV-am.

Joining Newman at Media City will be Lisa Hill who has gained extensive media sector experience through positions at North West Vision and Media, Cosgrove Hall Films and Lime Pictures, and Helen Johnson, who has also been recruited from the press office of Liverpool Culture Company.

The Salford Quays media hub will be home to over 2000 BBC staff and aims to provide opportunities for over 1,000 creative and related businesses, making it the largest dedicated media community in the UK and one of the largest media cities in the world.

Media City UK chief Brian Greasley, who is believed to have worked alongside Paul Carroll of Zuma 011 to establish the new line-up, said: “Media City UK has an enormous communications remit, covering a range of target audiences and operating on regional, national and international levels. I’m delighted that we’ve now secured a proven communications team who can start to actively take the Media City story out there.”

The marketing budget for Media City UK is estimated to be well in excess of £1m annually.
