Edinburgh based, Firefly Communications has won what is believed to have been a four way pitch for sandwich chain Subway's new Scottish PR account.

The agency has been appointed to promote the brand’s general awareness throughout Scotland as it looks to increase its profile and increase its number of Scottish stores by another 25 before the end of next year. It will also celebrate the 10th anniversary opening of its first Scottish store on Glasgow’s Union Street next July.

Martin Cryans, director of Firefly Edinburgh said when he joined the agency from Beattie Communications that he was looking to concentrate on growing the agency's consumer business, having previously focused on technology, corporate and B2B PR.

Cryans told The Drum; “We'll act as Subway’s Scottish communications agency, while McKenna Townsend will continue as its UK PR agency. We’re incredibly pleased to have secured the account for such an iconic brand, as Firefly Communications moves forward.”

The Drum reported earlier in the month that Subway’s Scottish regional board had issued an invitation to tender to PR agencies across Scotland in April but no one at the company was available to comment on speculation that the company may look for a UK PR agency.

The client has already achieved success with its Scottish advertising agency, Frame which was recently named as the brand’s top international marketing agency having won the award against 50 other advertising agencies from around the world voted by the Subway Franchisees’ Advertising Fund Trust.
