Ex-Poulters directors return with Banana Kick

Gary McCall and Nick Goring, formerly MD and CSD at Leeds-based Poulters, have announced the launch of sports and leisure start-up, Banana Kick.

Poulters parent company, Bezier revealed its plans to close the 39-year-old business last month and rumours regarding a McCall-Goring start-up were the first to emerge (The Drum, 13.06.08).

The pair will be joined with five ex-Poulters staff and McCall said he hoped more would follow in the future.

The new company will specialise in the sports and leisure sectors, with McCall taking on the managing director role and Goring becoming client services director - the two roles held by the pair during their time at Poulters. Both exited the busines earlier this year: McCall leaving in February and Goring in June.

"We feel in this crowded market place, sector-specialist agencies have the most potential to be successful in the long run," McCall told The Drum.

“We created Banana Kick in response to the pressure on consumer spending in sports and leisure, and the recognition that companies operating in that market are increasingly looking for more creative ways to attract and keep customers.

“Over the years Nick and I have worked on some of the biggest sport and leisure brands in the UK, and as a result we believe that Banana Kick’s offering is unique in its sector – cutting edge campaigns that are as creative as they are commercial.

“We’re committed to making sure that every piece of work delivers benefits to our clients’ bottom lines.”

Both partners have a rich track record in the sports and leisure sectors, having worked on major national campaigns for clients such as Manchester United, Spirit Group, William Hill, Meadowhall, Pepsi and Sport England.
