Mere PR has dropped a giant cigarette butt in Trafalgar Square to make a point about the nature of cigarette litter for client Keep Britain Tidy.

The cigarette butt is 30ft high and 1.5 metres wide. Mere say its scale is representative of discarded cigarette butts being "the country's largest litter issue".

Mere PR director, Victoria Moore commented: "Since the launch of the smoking in public places ban on 1 July 2007, the level of cigarette litter has continued to soar and we are now seeing an epidemic of fag ends on the streets of the UK. We are delighted to be working with Keep Britain Tidy to communicate the message that dumping fag stubs on the ground is disgusting."

The activity marks the launch of Keep Britain Tidy’s biggest anti-smoking litter campaign to date.
