Nothern Rock has said it will stand by its beleaguered brand and has pledged to make marketing core to its rescue plan.

The bank’s marketing needs are currently handled by Newcastle-based Cravens and TH_NK, who provide advertising and digital services respectively, while media is handled by Manchester’s MediaVest.

In a statement published on the Northern Rock website, executive chairman Ron Sandler, who was brought in by the government to run the bank upon nationalisation, said: “Our brand name is Northern Rock and will remain so.

The name carries a great deal of goodwill amongst our customers, most of whom have stayed with us despite the difficulties we have faced.”

The bank’s board has pledged to “re-establish the Northern Rock brand and revitalise marketing.”
