GMG Radio is bringing back Jazz FM to capitalise on the demise of rival GCAP offering, The Jazz.

The new 24-hour Jazz FM will be a DAB digital-only offering and, according to GMG, will look to step into the void left by The Jazz.

GMG has previously covered the jazz genre through the overnight schedule on its Smooth brand, but now it believes there is a significant gap in the market for a niche station.

"DAB has come a long way in recent years and we are confident that Jazz FM has a promising future on a digital platform," said GMG Radio chief executive, John Myers.

He added: "We have always carried on with Jazz FM online but we now hope that the gap left by The Jazz will enable us to win an increased audience to this new service."

The presenter line-up details and a full programme schedule are set to be announced in due course.
