DIY retailer Wickes has appointed McCann Erickson Communications House to help with the expansion of its digital offering, after a five-way pitch.

Sharon Loggie, head of online media at McCanns, said the agency would be helping Wickes capitalise on the digital opportunities in the DIY sector.

The Wickes appointment follows other recent digital wins including Vision Express, Peacocks and Brother.

Details of the other digital agencies pitching for the business have not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for TBWA\Manchester has quashed speculation that the agency’s position on the Wickes advertising account is under threat following the firm’s January appointment of London-based MWO to handle £10million worth of ad business.

According to TBWA\Manchester, the agency will continue to work exclusively on all Wickes’ below-the-line activity.

In a seperate development, In the RAR Top 100 Agencies feature (8 February), McCann Erickson Communications House was incorrectly attributed to a footnote suggesting it had been acquired by the Mission Group. The agency is part of McCann World Group, which is in turn part of the Interpublic Group of Companies. The footnote related to Leicester-based agency Big Communications.

The Drum is happy to clarify the situation to avoid any further inconvenience.
