The changes include 200 voluntary redundancies being sought, while Careers Scotland will move to the newly created Skills and Development agency, including its marketing staff.

Other moves include the International Marketing department being absorbed by Scottish Development International, while the corporate marketing division will be merged with the communications team. For the time being Business Gateway will remain within Scottish Enterprise.

As a result of this, several directors will need to apply for roles within these merged divisions, and McIntyre has confirmed that he will now reapply.

“I’ve had a great time here. My background has been in the private sector with brands like Gillette, so to come into the public sector was a big change, but I would hope that another opportunity comes up, and if it doesn’t then naturally I would have to look at my options, but my first choice would be to remain working within Scottish Enterprise and the public sector network. I think I can add value there.”

A spokeperson for Scottish Enterprise said of the redundancies: “This will ultimately save Scottish Enterprise £10m a year, reduce senior management posts across the organisation and increase the number of customer facing staff we have to 75 percent of our employees.

“That process will be completed by 1 April at which point we will have a new staffing structure in place.”
