Beattie Communications has appointed Evening News business editor Jim Stanton as an account director at its new Edinburgh office.

Stanton joined the Evening News almost a decade ago as a news reporter, before forming part of the business team that produced the original eight-page pink pull-out section in early 2000. He graduated to deputy business editor in October 2002 and was appointed business editor 18 months ago.

The 45 year-old said: “I have really enjoyed my time at the Evening News but I can't say I'll miss the pre-dawn starts too much. I'm looking forward to starting with Beattie and opening up another new chapter in a rather varied working life.”

Prior to the Evening News, Stanton worked at Newsflash press agency and before that at the Kirkintilloch Herald. A latecomer to journalism, he started his working life as a car mechanic and had a variety of jobs including driving vans, mending vending machines, labouring, taxi driving and was also, briefly, a bingo caller.
