John McDonald has joined Glasgow-based design agency Freight as its new marketing manager.

McDonald began his new role at the agency on Wednesday, having departed from his role as director of communications and enterprise at Glasgow-based centre for architecture and design The Lighthouse at the end of last year.

Explaining his move, McDonald said: “I’d been with The Lighthouse for five and a half years and had done as much as I needed to do there. It’s a great organisation which is moving into a new phase. But also Freight has some amazing talent and I look forward to helping to develop the business.”

Adrian Searle, director of Freight Design, commented: “His role is a strategic one in that he will help to source new business and provide marketing consultancy as well as being tasked with taking a long hard look at Freight’s positioning, helping us to develop the agency in the long term.”

A spokesperson for The Lighthouse said that it was currently exploring a number of options for the future of his post and that details will be announced in the coming weeks.
