Edinburgh-based design consultancy Tayburn is on the recruitment drive south of the border as it expands its Manchester operation following the agency’s recent MBO.

New design director Vicky Beswick is the first arrival, having been plucked from Manchester agency The Chase. It was from the same agency that Simon Farrell – part of Tayburn’s recent MBO team – joined as managing director in 2005, in-line with the Scottish agency’s Manchester opening.

Another design position and a senior account role are expected to be filled soon.

Corporate director, Steven Mitchell, told The Drum: “It’s important to put the right resources behind Manchester and build our reputation there. We’ve got high hopes for Manchester to really establish the business.”

Mitchell said he hopes the agency will overcome its lack of reputation in England through its three key pillars - corporate identity, brand packaging and annual reports.

Simon Farrell added: “In Manchester there isn’t anybody doing what we do. People with a budget of £250,000 are looking for more than a nice design. They are looking for someone who is going to help them develop, get key messages across and communicate a good image to the city, while understanding the role of corporate responsibility.”
