Manchester design agency Creative Vein has snatched the lucrative SureStart contract from under the noses of their competitors, after a last minute creative pitch won the business ahead of three prior rival bids.

The agency has taken on two new staff – an account handler and designer- solely to deal with the win from Trafford Council, which co-founder Jeanette Aspinall described as a fantastic opportunity to help the community.

Creative Vein was invited to pitch after three other agencies had already pitched, but failed to fulfil the brief.

“We had a much shorter time than anyone else, and had to rush something together. It was a bit of a mad one, but sometimes you do your best work when you are under the pressure,” said Aspinall.

The contract will see Creative Vein undertaking a rolling marketing campaign for the launch of five new SureStart centres in the Manchester area, rolling out in 2009. It involves the design of banner advertising, literature and stationery to promote the centres.

The SureStart centres are part of a UK government programme to encourage new parents and deprived families on modest means to return to work.
