Mediacity:uk has announced that it has filled one of two senior executive positions for the project, appointing Jane Deane as programme director.

The programme director role includes partnership development and the alignment of strategic objectives to enable mediacity:uk to deliver what it describes as “lasting transformational change” in terms of jobs, training opportunities, community development and the growth of the media and creative industry in the north of England.

Deame joins from urban regeneration company New East Manchester where she has been project director since 2000. The appointment has been made by the project’s partners – Salford City Council, the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company. Deane will work alongside a managing director currently being appointed by Peel Media.

Deane said: \"The delivery of mediacity:uk will be a transformational driver in the regeneration of Salford, the north west and the future of the UK\'s media and creative industries. I\'m delighted to be playing a part in delivering this ground-breaking project and look forward to working with all the regional and national partners who will help to turn the vision for mediacity:uk into a vibrant reality.”

Bryan Gray, chairman of both the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the mediacity:uk Steering Group, welcomed the appointment: “The countdown to 2011, when five BBC departments will take up residence at the mediacity:uk site, has begun and Jane will be at the forefront of delivering a vital economic driver for the Northwest economy.”
