A £100,000 scheme has been sealed today aiming to cement Bristol’s reputation as a hub for creative business.

Cash has been ploughed into two projects, ‘Light up Bristol’ and ‘Media Sandbox’. The scheme is directed by Bristol+, a partnership of industry creative and technology professionals with a view to promoting the region’s strengths and stature in sectors including creative and design.

In December, \'Light Up Bristol\' will showcase Bristol\'s leading digital and creative agencies with city centre landmark buildings being used as a canvas for animation and moving images. The \'Media Sandbox\' will focus on enabling businesses in the region to explore the new possibilities in digital media.

The projects form part of broader business funding by the South West Regional Development Agency. Bristol+ member and head of creative industries at the South West RDA, Chris Garcia, said: “To grow the creative economy in South West England, it is vital that we encourage risk taking, develop local confidence and collaboration and raise Bristol\'s international profile as a creative engine.\"

The scheme is being administered by Bristol’s Watershed, which describes itself as ‘a combination of a cultural centre, a business broker, a social networker, and a research and innovation facility.’

Dick Penny, managing director of Watershed, said: “With South West RDA\'s investment and the expertise of Bristol+, we intend to help the creative sector in the region stand out internationally through promoting innovation at the convergence of creative and technology sectors.”
