Attik, the UK- and US-based design agency, has been acquired by Japanese headquartered advertising group Dentsu.

The group’s New York-based consolidated subsidiary, Dentsu Holdings USA, Inc. has acquired 100 per cent of the outstanding shares for both US and Leeds offices of Attik.

The agency was founded in Huddersfield in 1986 by Simon Needham and James Sommerville. Headquartered in Leeds, it now has offices stateside in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. 58 staff work across Attik’s three US offices, while 10 work in Leeds.

“We have never stood still since we began chalking on the streets of Huddersfield and Manchester in the mid-80s. It’s been an incredible journey that has seen us transform ourselves many times,” said Attik co-founder and group creative director, UK, James Sommerville.”

Attik’s management team will remain in place following the acquisition with James Sommerville continuing as Attik UK creative director. Attik UK will also continue to operate from its existing location in Leeds and will remain an independent entity as a wholly owned subsidiary of Dentsu Holdings USA, Inc.

Ric Peralta and William Travis, formerly the chief executive and president of Attik US, have become president and vice-president of Attik Division, Dentsu America.

Attik’s UK clients include Adidas, Coca-Cola and Heineken. In the US, its accounts include Boost Mobile, ExpressJet and Toyota’s Scion.
