Fife Hyland has joined sports marketing and events agency Platinum One as its new chief executive.

Hyland joins the Edinburgh-based agency, which is chaired by former Scottish rugby legend Gavin Hastings, from 1576 where he was previously a board director responsible for sponsorship and events.

Hyland joined the board of 1576 in October 2005 when the agency acquired his sponsorship and events company Carnegie Worldwide.

During his time at 1576, Hyland was involved in bringing in accounts including the CIS Insurance Cup sponsorship work.

He left the Leith-based advertising agency earlier this year along with founding directors Adrian Jeffery and Gary Smith as well as Kenneth Fowler and Ruth Lees.

Jeffery has since launched his own agency, Mightysmall, while Lees is working freelance through her company Brandmad. It is thought that Gary Smith is also set to launch his own agency.

Platinum One was founded in 1991 and is a sporting sponsorship and event management agency.

The company currently has offices in Dublin, Edinburgh, Barcelona and Manchester and employs 35 people across its offices.

Platinum One was responsible for organising Barcelona FC's pre-season tour of Scotland, which saw the club play against Hearts FC and Dundee United.

Maeve Buckley, group chief executive of Platinum One, said: "Scotland is an extremely important market for us, and one where we will be concentrating an increasing amount of resource. Fife comes with an impressive track record and is ideally suited to take the company on to the next stage in both Scotland and the rest of the UK."
