Mediaedge:cia Manchester has landed the £1.2million Canary Islands Tourist Board brief to promote the islands to Brits this Autumn.

The account will use a mix of consumer magazines, national press supplements, travel sections and outdoor media to promote the rich diversity in activities, culture and natural beauty on offer to tourists.

Elena Gonzalez, marketing director of the Canary Islands Tourist Board, stressed the importance of having a UK media presence.

“The British market is fundamental for Canarias, with a 37.5 per cent share. Due to this a high quality and well selected presence in media is imperative to guarantee that we capture the attention of the consumer, in an environment that is evermore competitive.\"

Last year the Canaries seven main islands welcomed 9,530,039 foreign tourists, and the average annual temperature of 22 degrees Celsius is sure to appeal to Brits already tired of their winter warmers.

Last month, the agency won the £5million brief for UK Car Group.
