Chris van der Kuyl has been appointed chief executive officer of Scotland Online, one of the country’s internet pioneers.

Van der Kuyl also becomes an executive director of the company, and will have overall responsibility for Scotland Online, reporting to the board and shareholders, D.C. Thomson and Noble Grossart Investments.

He initially made his name through the success of his company VIS Entertainment, which merged with Bam Entertainment in 2004.

David Hunter steps down as executive chairman, and will take up a position as an advisor to the DC Thomson Group and Scotland Online.

Scotland Online provides internet access, disaster recovery and security services to the corporate and business market companies including Scottish Widows.

The company also operates scotlandspeople.gov.uk, a partnership between the General Register Office for Scotland, the National Archives of Scotland and the Court of the Lord Lyon.
