Mere PR has been appointed to launch a specially commissioned coin to commemorate Liverpool’s 800-year anniversary and its status as European Capital of Culture 2008.

The coin collection has been commissioned by The London Mint Office, and the Cheshire-based pr company is said to be finalising a number of stunts in Liverpool to generate interest in it among the city’s residents.

A range of local and national media activity is expected to follow to support the launch.

Tony Tighe, CEO of Mere PR, remained tight-lipped of exact plans but said: \"The campaign will combine a range of methods, as we are targeting both Liverpool residents and coin collectors all over the UK.”

The coins are expected to be crafted to depict elements of the city’s heritage in areas such as culture, transport, architecture and sport.
