D&AD’s exhibition celebrating the best advertising and design in the world opens at Manchester’s Urbis next week, featuring around 160 works.

Consisting of mainly films, games and prints, the pieces have been selected from nominees for the D&AD Awards and aim to break down the creative process and examine how design and advertising has been integrated into people’s everyday lives. The exhibition will also highlight the important role design and advertising can play in raising awareness of societal issues such as health, children\'s welfare and war.

Exhibition officer for Urbis and the curator for the D&AD collection, Coralie Claeysen told The Drum what visitors can expect: “Our aim was to keep true to current trends in design and representing the entries in the best possible way: the theme of design with a conscience (social/environmental issues), D&AD\'s ethos as representing the best of advertising and design, and finally Urbis\' goal for excellence in creativity guided our judgement in selecting extra works.”

“Much of the entries in this year\'s awards related to raising the profile of issues of social concerns, from the environment and sustainability, to conflicts around the world, to issues of poverty and famine. We will be showing around 20 adverts addressing such matters.”

Claeysen revealed that 29 juries were involved in the selection process to ensure the best work was selected out of 25000 entries. The exhibition will run from Monday 22 October until February 2008.
