Scottish Opera has defended its decision to award the pitch for the rebrand of the company to London based Hat-trick, despite the organisation being part funded by the Scottish Government.

However, Scottish Opera dismissed criticisms that the contract should have been awarded to a Scottish-based agency.

“We interviewed in a very robust way and each agency was presented with an opportunity to present their ideas,” said Helen Ireland, Scottish Opera’s director of marketing and communications.

“The London-based agency just happened to be the right people for the job.”

Ireland added that Hat-trick won the contract after a lengthy and rigorous selection process.

The £15,000 contract will see the country’s national opera company’s rebranding put in place by February, in time for the launch of its new season.

Twelve agencies expressed interest in pitching for the rebrand, with two Scottish agencies making it to the final stages.
