Glorious Creative has been appointed by Tate Liverpool to design exhibition graphics and a 96-page book for a forthcoming exhibition as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations.

Titled The 20th Century: How It Looked & How It Felt, the exhibition will take over three floors of the museum to look at figurative and abstract art from across the last century over. The event runs from September this year until spring 2009 and includes work by Picasso and Mondrian.

The brief was to create graphics which highlight the distinct themes explored on each floor while maintaining the shared aesthetic of the exhibition. This led to a concept which Glorious’ design director Tom Shaughnessy described as “an abstract design in its own right.”

The work includes a 100-year timeline covering a seven-metre wall, and colour codes throughout the exhibition to help visitors navigate. The tie-in book pays particular attention to Rodin’s The Kiss, which will be on display in the foyer.
