Marston’s Pub Company has launched a new campaign highlighting the benefits of the smoking ban in England.

The firm, which has an estate of almost 2000 pubs, commissioned Cheltenham-based Factor 3 to develop a creative concept that demonstrated the importance of the new legislation, but without disenfranchising its loyal smoking customers.

“We don’t want smokers to feel like second class citizens in our pubs”, said Lisa Cosh, marketing manager for Marston’s Pub Company. “The construction of attractive areas outside our pubs, for smoker and non-smokers alike, will come into their own in the summer months when the ban starts.”

Nick Fairburn, managing director of Factor 3, said: “Firstly we had to demonstrate to the landlords Marston’s forward-thinking in regards to the legislation. The key was then to show them that the smoking ban wouldn’t be the end of the world and that some very real positives would be expected from its introduction”.

The ‘No To Smoke’ and ‘Go To Smoke’ propositions is targeting both smokers and non-smokers, respectively.
