Chris Dempsey, chief marketing manager at the Scottish Executive is set to leave the government body later this month.

Dempsey is to take up the role of head of communications and customer services at Registers of Scotland in early July.

Registers of Scotland is the government agency responsible for compiling and maintaining registers relating to property and other legal documents.

Dempsey has worked in several communications posts at the Executive and the Scottish Office over the last 24 years.

He joined the Scottish Executive from school in 1968, but it wasn’t until 1982 that he moved to the media and communications group.

For several years he worked on the overseas visitors programme before joining the Executive press office. He then worked as press officer for several ministers before moving to the marketing unit in 1994.

During his time in the marketing unit, Dempsey has overseen several award-winning campaigns. Campaigns for domestic abuse and Children’s Hearings won IPA Effectiveness awards and several campaigns were shortlisted at the Roses Advertising Awards.

In 2006, Dempsey and his team won Client of the Year at the Scottish Advertising Awards, with a number of different campaigns for the Executive winning awards. Dempsey also won Marketer of the Year at Marketing Excellence Awards 2006 in Edinburgh.

The Scottish Executive’s media planning review is still underway.

The account, currently held by MediaCom Scotland, will be contested by between five and eight applicants, with a pitch to be held for the £68m account later this year.
