spider unveils first online work for first Group’s travel portal

Spider has launched an online portal for transport company First Group, following months of development.

The Glasgow-based digital agency has completely redeveloped the firm’s online offering for Firstgroup.com and its national bus services.

The wide-reaching job has seen Spider design a raft of over 25 sites for the transport operator.

As well as information on the individual regions, the sites contain regularly-updated timetables, where First’s bus customers can check individual routes and fares with more ease than the traditional downloadable-PDF systems favoured by most bus companies.

In addition to the new sites, Spider is also developing an e-mail marketing system for the company that will enable the individual operators to target customers in their area with special offers and customer information, while also allowing FirstGroup to deliver information about national initiatives and offers to its passengers.

Speaking of the project, John Campbell, Spider’s MD, said: "The FirstGroup project is, quite simply, huge. And while the majority of the sites have already been completed, there are over a dozen digital projects for the company underway at any one time.

"FirstGroup is one of those companies that every web agency would love to work with and for them to give their contracts to a young Scottish agency like Spider Online is fantastic."

Avril Gill, marketing manager, group brand for First, added: "Spider has developed a true understanding of our diverse online requirements and has offered extensive technical and design support together with a 'can do' approach to every new challenge."

Campbell worked previously with FirstGroup, while at Citigate Smarts. Meanwhile, Spider Online is currently looking to appoint a non-executive director. The team is currently in talks with a number of individuals with respect to taking up the position.

"Our business is now beginning to come together. We have done incredibly well to get to where we are so quickly, but we are the first to acknowledge that we need to add further knowledge and experience to compete in a fast growing sector," added Campbell.
