Real Radio Scotland’s managing director Billy Anderson has been given increased responsibility for GMG Radio’s portfolio of stations north of the border.

Following the group’s acquisition of Saga 105.2fm and its subsequent relaunch as Smooth Radio, combined with the purchase of Q96 and its rebrand to Rock Radio, Anderson will now become managing director of GMG Radio (Scotland). He joined Real Radio as sales director in 2002 from The Carnyx Group.

The growth of GMG Radio in recent months – from five to eleven stations – has seen the group increase the duties of Roy Bennett in the North West of England, who was previously MD of Smooth in the region. He will take on the role of MD for Century FM and become GMG Radio MD (North West).

GMG Radio group operations director Shaun Bowron said: “It makes sense to appoint MDs who work across a portfolio of stations. We believe in putting a proper management structure in each of our stations and this has delivered excellent results.”
