Feather Brooksbank has been appointed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship organisation to plan and buy a £7m advertising campaign through 2007.

Initial focus for the agency is fully launching the UFC brand in the UK, supporting a major Ultimate Fighting Championship event being held in Manchester later this month and driving pay per view sales for the UFC show on Bravo and Setanta.

UFC is a premier brand of mixed martial arts that has seen huge success in its native North America and – its owner hopes – is set to grow rapidly in the UK.

Brand advertising, which has already begun, showcases the tactical nature of the UFC, the personalities of its fighters and its status as a mainstream sport.

Media being used includes TV, outdoor, press, radio and online.

UFC’s UK President, Marshall Zelaznik, said of the appointment: “We are pleased to be working with Feather Brooksbank to ensure that UFC’s international initiative will be impactful and demonstrative of UFC’s position as the brand leader in the category of mixed martial arts.”

The UFC account will be handled through Feather Brooksbank’s Edinburgh office and run by head of communications planning, Gary Wise, who commented: “This is a fantastic addition to our portfolio of clients. The ambition of UFC, the excitement and entertainment of the events and the huge scope for creative media thinking make this a brilliant account to work on.”
