The Scottish Executive is set to review its media planning account, worth up to £68million over a three and a half year period.

A spokesperson for the Executive confirmed that the account, currently held by MediaCom Scotland, was being advertised in the European Journal, although an Executive spokesperson insisted that this did not mean that the account would leave Scotland.

A minimum of five and a maximum of eight applicants will compete for the account, which it is thought will see just one appointment made again.

Roger Williams, head of marketing for the Scottish Executive is leading the review, with deadline for applications to tender falling on 11 May.

The successful agency will work on accounts such as VisitScotland, National Health Service and Quality Meat Scotland as well as two new areas which fall under this review, The Blood Transfusion Service and The Scottish Parliament Corporate Body.

After the expiry of the initial three and a half year period, the Executive has confirmed that there is also the possibility of a two year extension period.

The last pitch in 2004 saw MediaCom winning the account from Feather Brooksbank.
