Biss Lancaster has been appointed by Mecca Bingo, the UK’s second largest bingo operator, to handle its national PR account.

Owned by Rank Gaming Division, Mecca Bingo has 113 clubs across the UK, five million members and admissions in excess of 22 million every year.

The account will be serviced out of the Edinburgh and Manchester offices by a five-strong account team.

The consultancy will report to Lesley Hughes, head of PR for the gaming division, and its brief will be to position Mecca as the bingo brand of choice to all members – past, present or potential – through national and regional media relations campaign.

“The interest in bingo is growing,” said Hughes. “We want to widen our customer base, as well as maintaining the loyalty of our existing members.”

Biss Lancaster’s Brian Beech, MD of Edinburgh and Manchester, added: “This is a major win for us and it was an extremely enjoyable one for us to research. The whole of the consultancy went to a Mecca Bingo club and had a great night. We even had a couple of winners.”

Mecca has been a major player in the bingo market since opening its first club in 1961. It owns Europe’s biggest club, Mecca Forge in Glasgow, and the world’s first fully electronic bingo club, Mecca Fountain Park, in Edinburgh. It also has clubs in Spain and operates an online bingo business.
