Mark Gorman, co-founder of 1576 and, until September last year, chief executive in Scotland of IAS SMARTS, has been named as chairman of the Scottish Marketing Association (SMA).

Gorman succeeds Frame director Graeme Atha, who led the organisation through its first two years of existence. He will be supported by Stephen Pearson, strategy and operations director of BD Ntwk, who takes on the role of president.

The SMA is the only marketing communications organisation with an exclusively Scottish membership, which makes it uniquely qualified to voice the concerns of members without undermining the points of view and interests of membership in other regions of the UK.

The SMA aims to re-model itself as a “chamber of commerce” for a wide range of marketing communications agencies and media owners operating in Scotland.

It offers a different kind of networking environment to that of Scotland’s marketing communications trade associations.
