S1 has appointed The Leith Agency following a three-way pitch for its advertising business.

The online business, owned by Newsquest, was forced to put its account up for pitch last year after The Union parted company with the brand having won work from rival business Stv.tv.

The pitch also included Navigator and Newhaven.

David Craik, s1 marketing manager, said: “We set a deliberately challenging and wide-ranging brief and then tried to work as closely and realistically as possible with the three teams during the pitch process.

“While all three presented good strategic thinking and big, campaignable ideas, we felt that the Leith's work stood out as being the most impactful, compelling and the best fit with our brand values. The team at The Leith clearly understand the essence of the s1 brand and I'm confident that it's now in the right hands for the next stage of its development.”

The Leith Agency last year hired Guy Vickerstaff and Phil Evans, who previously worked on the s1 business while at The Union – winning numerous awards for their s1 advertising.

Brian Coane, account director at Leith said of the win: “The brief and the way s1 managed the pitch process were exemplary. We always like to work collaboratively with clients and being able to do this as we developed ideas helped us get into the s1 brand. We're looking forward to starting work at an exciting time for the s1 business.”

Prior to the two parting company in September last year, The Union enjoyed a long relationship with the online brand which it helped launch with a string of high-profile adverts.

The s1 brand includes s1Jobs, s1Homes and s1Play, with s1cars soon to be launched.
