GMG Radio has appointed The Bridge to the “significant six-figure” advertising account for 96.3 Rock Radio following a four-way pitch.

Rock Radio is currently gearing up for launch at the start of next year, with the refocus following the acquisition of Q96 by GMG Radio – the owner of Real Radio Scotland – earlier this year.

The Bridge’s remit will include everything from advertising to creating the new branding and even designing the reception area.

The initial contract will last for one year.

The announcement comes a fortnight after Real Radio Scotland managing director Billy Anderson revealed that the radio broadcaster was in discussions with a number of West Coast advertising agencies to handle the new account.

While continuing to broadcast news and content for the Paisley and Renfrewshire area, the new station will also broadcast to a larger TSA of over 800,000 adults from January.

In September, Real Radio Scotland was given permission by industry regulators Ofcom to co-house Q96 within its building in Glasgow while agreeing to honour the station’s local format.

The new station will showcase a new brand for GMG Radio’s media portfolio and from January 2007, 96.3 Rock Radio will broadcast a variety of classic rock tracks from the last 40 years.

Although targeting a wide market the station will have a “slight 35+ bias”, playing a large mix of music from artists such as Led Zepplin, AC/DC, Simple Minds, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Primal Scream, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and The Who.

Speaking of the imminent launch of the new station, Real Radio’s managing director, Billy Anderson, recently said: “By providing a new station for the Total Survey Area focussing on an extremely successful genre of music, 96.3 Rock Radio will provide an alternative listen while encompassing the key local news and information services.”
