A series of controversial and hard-hitting radio ads are finally to be aired in Yorkshire after being banned by some radio stations.

The ‘Screamer’ campaign adverts were deemed too upsetting by some stations, however Galaxy Yorkshire has agreed to run them in a bid to draw attention to road safety.

Created in-house by the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership, one advert features a young male describing his ex-girlfriend who’s been involved in a speed-related crash. The other features a mother talking about her son.

Martyn Healy, managing director of Galaxy, said of the station’s decision to broadcast the ads; \"We’ve worked with the partnership on previous campaigns that have ‘pushed the limits’ in order to get a serious road safety message to an audience who tend not to think of themselves as potential casualties.

\"Our listeners are used to us being unconventional and engaging. If it makes them think about their driving it’s a good thing.\"
