Two prominent journalists have launched a new office in London for a fast-growing media-relations, training and public affairs company that began trading in Scotland earlier this year.

Stephen Khan, formerly with Independent Newspapers, and Jo Phillips, of media group Ten Alps, this week launched the London operation of McGarvie Morrison Media (MMM).

Khan was working at the Independent on Sunday until earlier this month. He was previously deputy foreign editor of the daily Independent and, before that, Scotland editor of The Observer. He becomes MMM's creative director.

Phillips is a broadcast production journalist and director of Ten Alps Live. She served as a special adviser to Paddy Ashdown when he was leader of the Liberal Democrats. While retaining her existing position with Ten Alps, Phillips takes on the role of UK public affairs director at MMM.

The company was set up at the start of 2006 by award-winning Scottish journalist Lindsay McGarvie, previously political editor of the Sunday Mail, and BBC network news correspondent John Morrison.

It has already established a list of clients including the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland and the Scottish Golf Union.

Jonathan Milne, former deputy editor of Reporting Scotland, also recently joined the company’s Glasgow HQ as media director.
