A British building society has signed a new four year extension to sponsor the Scottish National side.

Nationwide Building Society has extended its associate sponsorship with the Scotland football team.

The four-year deal means Nationwide now sponsors all four home nations, Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with each deal ending at the end of the 2009-2010 football season.

Chris Hull, Nationwide's sponsorship controller, said: “Nationwide is delighted to continue its partnership with the Scotland team and Scottish Football Association.

“Sponsorship forms a very important part of our communication process and it is a great way to promote our brand to a huge audience. As the world’s biggest building society and a growing business, it is very important for us to continue to find powerful ways of communicating the benefits that we can offer to our members and to potential new customers.”

The news follows sportswear manufacturer, Diadora’s four year extension as the Scotland side’s official kit manufacturer and Specsavers’ three year extension to its sponsorship of Scottish FA referees.

That deal will see £600,000 put into the coaching and development of Scottish football’s whistle blowers.

David Quigley of Specsavers Opticians in Scotland, said: “Four years ago we had a vision that our sponsorship of the Scottish referees would prove to be successful and fruitful and this has indeed been the case. The nation has truly taken the sponsorship to their hearts and it has really struck a chord with the humour of football fans in Scotland and further a-field.

“We look forward to developing this further and continuing to look at ways to enhance the profile and reputation of refereeing in Scotland as well as reinforcing Specsavers’ brand strengths.”
