Nigel Oakes, the former managing director of Cogent, has teamed up with award-winning creative Mike Murphy to launch Oakes Murphy and Partners (OMP) – a new marketing agency based in Warwickshire. Murphy will take on the role of creative partner, while Oakes will be managing partner.

Oakes has over 20 years of experience on both the agency and client side, but has spent the last few years working on The Agency Place – a business he co-founded – which helped clients with agency selection and audit and evaluation. The business ceased trading last year.

Murphy also brings over 20 years experience, having begun his career with Midlands-based agencies before heading to London. While in the capital he held positions with both large multinational agencies and smaller creative hot-shops. He latterly spent 10 years as a creative director with JWT before choosing to go freelance.

Last year Murphy returned to the Midlands, joining the Birmingham office of Citigate Smarts as creative director. However, Murphy quit his post after just four months, opting to return to freelance projects.

Details on clients OMP will be working for have not yet been announced, however, the agency aims to provide a full-service marketing communications offering.
