Mike Williams, one of the most successful and well-known figures within the Manchester advertising scene, has announced his retirement from the industry after 37 years. Williams, currently chief executive of Universal McCann in Manchester, began his career working in the media departments of major London agencies on campaigns such as Unilever, Norwich Union and Cussons.

In 1979 Williams moved to Manchester to help establish All Media Services North, the first media specialist outside of London. In 1993 Williams left to set up MediaVest (Manchester), where he spent seven years building the company to a turnover approaching £100million. Williams was approached in 2004 to join Universal McCann.

Commenting on his retirement Williams said: \"I’ll be sad to leave. The industry has been brilliant for me. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with some great people and have had some fantastic times.\"
