The Union has strengthened its team with a number of appointments, including John MacDougall, who joins the agency from Scottish Courage as account director.

Prior to Scottish Courage, MacDougall was at the Leith Agency and a board director at Faulds. At the Union he will work on the Miller Homes business.

Joining MacDougall at the agency is Tony Rodger, who joins from Samsung’s internal promotions agency where he was responsible for Europe-wide implementation of all Samsung’s retail and sponsorship activity. This included implementing the new Chelsea FC sponsorship deal. Prior to this he worked in a range of advertising and design agencies, including Conran and Coley Porter Bell. Rodger will head up The Union’s retail offering, including Sterling Furniture Group and Semi-Chem.

The Union’s account management team is also bolstered with the appointment of account managers Pauline Lamb and Nicola Watson. Lamb joins from Crombie Anderson and Watson joins from Clemenger Harvie Edge in Melbourne, Australia.

Union Direct has also recently increased its creative department by hiring award-winning team Dawn Kermani and Mark Flett from WAVV Rapp Collins, where they worked on The Macallan and the Scottish Rugby Union accounts.

Finally, Union Digital has hired digital project manager Nicola Burns from Citigate Smarts.

The new signings follow a handful of new wins in the last few months, including Scottish Enterprise Careers Scotland, Scottish Enterprise Broadband, Scottish Friendly, Scottish & Southern Electricity, Scotland on Line, SMG and ESPC, while Union Digital has secured work from Caledonian Brewery, SNCT, Safeglass, Scottish Friendly and McGregor & Young.

Ian McAteer, The Union’s MD, said: “All teams need refreshing from time to time, and there’s no doubt that the new blood has given us lots of new energy. It has also given us the opportunity to shake things up a bit internally which is productive. This year has been a hard slog, but with Union Direct doubling turnover and the Leeds and Digital arms performing well, we’re ending the year on a high.”
