Talk107, the speech-based radio station that is due to launch in Edinburgh in February 2006, has appointed Feather Brooksbank to handle its media buying and planning as it prepares for aunch.

Peter Gillespie, the recently appointed MD, said the station was in the process of hiring sales staff, a PR company and an ad agency.

“Feather Brooksbank will be planning how to position this unique proposition to the audience,” he said. “We will use some conventional media channels, but we’ll also be looking at unusual media channels.”

Commenting on the appointment of an advertising agency, he said; “The more noise in the market, the more noise you have to make to stand out. I had an informal ‘conceptual’ pitch. As we don’t actually exist yet, it’s quite tough to expect an agency to ‘get’ us. The agencies I’ve spoken to are all east coast and are agencies I’ve worked with in the past or have come recommended.”

Gillespie is expected to appoint a PR company and a sales director in the next fortnight.
