The Kingdom Radio Group has sold the analogue radio licence for Lanarkshire to Perth FM for an undisclosed sum of money.

Perth FM, headed up by former Radio One and Radio Clyde presenter Mark Page, has acquired the licence to broadcast to the area, currently operating as 107 The Edge.

Over the past two years Perth FM has successfully run two trial broadcasts for the forthcoming licence award for the Perth area.

As well as the operation in Perth, Page runs the Garrison Radio Group which recently opened its fifth station for the British Army at custom built studios at Dreghorn Barracks in Edinburgh.

Speaking of the acquisition Page said: “We are looking forward to extending our radio commitments in Scotland. We’ll bring a fresh look to local radio in Lanarkshire with a new station prior to Christmas and I am confident that our service will hit the spot with the local community.”

The key towns served by the radio station include Motherwell, Hamilton, Wishaw, Cumbernauld, Airdrie and Coatbridge.

Kingdom Radio Group’s Kevin Brady added: “I’m delighted that we’ve concluded a deal with Perth FM that will see the continuation of strong local radio in Lanarkshire. We’re sure that the new station will thrive under the guidance and expertise of Mark Page.”

107 The Edge was founded in 1999 as Clan FM, before being purchased and rebranded by the Kingdom Radio Group in 2003.

The current Lanarkshire licence expires in 2007, at which time tenders will be accepted by Ofcom.
