Barkers has won the communications contract to launch a new service that aims to provide information on better fuel efficiency, benefit entitlements and relevant services of energy suppliers as part of a major initiative to tackle fuel poverty.

The UK-wide initiative – Helpline for People in Fuel Poverty Trap – is being launched by the Energy Retail Association, the dedicated trade association for the country’s energy suppliers.

Scottish response handling company Essentiagroup has been appointed to deal with enquiries.

Barkers will launch the new service this month delivering a focused media campaign to ensure that the target audiences are aware of the new helpline and its benefits.

Managing director of Barkers, Chris Wallace, said: "It is great news that two Scottish companies have been awarded the contract for such an important service.

“We genuinely do think that Scotland is a centre of excellence for marketing of sensitive issues and we're confident the service we'll deliver will be of the highest quality."
