Local newspapers are the favourite place to find new jobs, according to recent research.

The survey, conducted by London-based research firm Human Capital on behalf of the Newspaper Society, found that 51 percent of the 8, 000 people it interviewed would turn to their local paper first when looking for a new job.

The jobcentre was in second place with only 9 percent of the vote.

Before conducting the interviews Human Capital liased with a number of professionals within the advertising, recruitment and publishing industries to make sure the research would be as relevant as possible.

The research also found that 23 percent of people interviewed had found their current job through the local press, which proved the second most successful way to find new employment behind word of mouth.
