Barr Soft Drinks has re-launched Diet Irn-Bru, and to celebrate the drink’s 25th birthday the company is planning an investment of £2.5m in a marketing campaign, including a new TV commercial by The Leith Agency, the first ever to support the brand.

The ad is in keeping with the company’s maverick edge and tongue in cheek humour and will be on screens from Monday 14 March.

The ad, shot on location in South Africa by up-and-coming Hollywood movie director Steve Burrows, features the “Oh Yeah” theme to Ferris Buller’s Day Off by Yello.

The new UK-wide marketing initiative includes a television, radio, print, outdoor and on-line drive, which will be supported by trade and consumer PR activity.

A high profile promotional campaign will also be revealed later this month and Barr will continue its radio sponsorship on Beat 106.

Creatives on the project were Chris Watson and Rufus Wedderburn with support from media buying agency PHD.
