442 Design has completed the interior design of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, in Leith Vaults. The society has upgraded the member’s areas to enhance the sense of welcome, warmth and comfort that accompanies a visit to the Vaults. Kevin Rettie, creative director at 442, said: “The refurbishment remains true to the classic and authentic nature of malt whisky. We have been careful to enhance rather than change what is already there by introducing the odd splash of richer colour, sharper finishes and appropriate furniture. The focus of the Members Room remains very much the two large fireplaces that crackle away on a chilly winter afternoon. The intimacy, character and humour of the Society are what makes it special and we aim to maintain this.”

Scotch Malt Whisky Society director, Richard Gordon added: “ The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has built up a strong reputation over the last 20 years as an ideal place to meet for a dram, a bite to eat or hold an event. The refreshed Members Room will maintain the essence of what the Society is all about.”
