The creative industries have an increasingly important role in the economy and must have the right conditions to flourish, said Patricia Ferguson, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport this week, speaking at the Fife Creative Futures Seminar, hosted by Glenrothes College.

“Vital to the future of the creative industry is the ability to react quickly to market trends by building a collaborative infrastructure which can compete on a national scale,” said Ferguson.

The creative industries sector currently supports 70,000 jobs in Scotland and generates more than £5billion annually for the national economy.

Non-digital creative industries are predicted to grow by between three and seven percent, and digital media by between 10 percent and 20 percent annually.

“Most importantly,” added the Culture Minister, “we must recognise this growth and support them in all that they do. Their ingenuity, their innate creativity, and their entrepreneurial skills allow the creative industries in Scotland to flourish, in turn helping Scotland’s whole economy to flourish too.’’
