Gerald Ratner, who became world-famous over a decade ago for describing his own jewellery as “crap”, has appointed Harrison Cowley to handle PR for his new jewellery website, Geraldonline. The website marked Ratner’s return to the jewellery marketplace after 12 years when it was launched last year and Harrison Cowley has now been tasked with building the site’s profile and driving traffic online. Initial campaigns will focus on Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

Ratner said: “We chose Harrison Cowley because we felt they had expertise in a wide range of sectors – this will allow the consultancy to promote the website in the way it deserves.”

The win is the second for Harrison Cowley in recent weeks, after being appointed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to carry out a public awareness campaign for the national switch to digital television. The upcoming campaign will aim to educate the public about the switchover, which is not scheduled to take place for another five years.
