Mick Dean, the co-founder of Pure Design, who resigned last month, is to launch his own design company later this month.

Called Various, Dean’s new design venture will be based south of Edinburgh and it will consist of himself and wife Annie.

Speaking of his new company, Dean said: “Downsizing allows the opportunity to put more emphasis on the creative.

“We are aiming to produce graphic design with more focused attention on a smaller number of quality clients, clients who appreciate what relevant and high-quality design can do in terms of fulfilling their own objectives. We aim to put the craft and thought that often gets lost due to commercial constraints back into design.”

Various will officially open its doors on 23 August and Dean, a previous Scottish Designer of the Year, will offer the full range of design services. He added: “As a company, we have expertise in management and finance as well as in creative and production areas. For a small company we are extremely well positioned to service client requirements across brand development, corporate identity, design for print, annual reports and website design and production.”
