The future of the Whyte & Mackay advertising account was left up in the air last week when incumbent agency The Union announced it had resigned the business.

The latest development comes hot on the heels of rumours that W&M has been in talks with Edinburgh agencies Newhaven and TBWA\Edinburgh. Last month TBWA was handed a project for Jura, the Whyte & Mackay-owned malt whisky brand.

However a spokesperson for Whyte & Mackay stated that: “There is no pitch process in place at the moment.”

The Union issued an official statement on 8 June saying that it had resigned the Whyte & Mackay account, which involved work for the Whyte & Mackay brand itself, Jura and Vladivar. In the statement Union MD Ian McAteer said: “I know agencies aren’t supposed to resign client business. We did have an excellent relationship with the team at Whyte & Mackay, and out of that came some outstanding work. However things change, and sometimes I feel an agency owes it to its own people to withdraw and move on. We’re proud of our work and wish Whyte & Mackay and their team all the best in the future. As you might expect, we are currently exploring a number of other options in the same sector.”
