Reports in the trade press last month regarding Universal McCann London’s win of the £19m More Than account appear to be misleading, say numerous industry insiders.

The business, which was said to have been collected by the London office after a pitch overseen by joint MDs Damien Blackden and Andy Jones, looks like it will actually be split across both the capital operation and Universal’s Manchester division.

In fact, elements of the Manchester management were said to have played a key part in the pitch process, with recently appointed account director Bev Jones an instrumental player.

A spokesperson at McCann’s Bonis Hall base commented, “This was very much a joint pitch and, as such, we will be getting a healthy share of the business.”

They added: “The best people, with particular skills suited to the account, were called in. We’ve got a great team here and they played an important part in the pitch.”
